(Delhi): Here are some important tips for students preparing for the ICSE Class 10 Mathematics exam. Experts suggest that students should follow their study plan, allocating sufficient time to all subjects while paying extra attention to weaker areas. Additionally, practicing previous years’ question papers and model papers is crucial.
ICSE Class 10 Mathematics Exam on March 4
The Class 10 board exams will commence on February 18, with the Mathematics exam scheduled for March 4. Students have more than a month to prepare. Model papers and their solutions for Mathematics are available online for practice. To provide guidance, Pooja Agarwal, a PGT Mathematics teacher at St. Mary’s Academy, has shared some tips.
Mathematics is extremely important for both Science and Commerce streams, as it tests students’ general mathematical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
Prepare According to Your Study Plan
This board exam is the first for many students, so treat it with the same seriousness as the previous nine years of exams. Stick to your pre-established study plan and prioritize revision in the remaining days. The Mathematics paper is significant, and students should strive to earn full marks through diligent practice. Continuous practice is essential for success in the Mathematics exam.
Practice Previous Years’ Question Papers
Practice solving question papers from previous board exams and sample papers released by the council. Attempt to solve these within the designated time to build confidence in completing the paper within the time limit. Aim to solve at least five model papers.
In-Depth Understanding of Formulas is Essential
In Mathematics, merely memorizing formulas is not enough; students must also have a deep understanding of how to apply them correctly. Therefore, practice these formulas thoroughly and pay attention to time management during the exam.
Maintain Clear Handwriting and Understand Questions
During the exam, ensure your handwriting is clear and assess the difficulty level of the questions as you read the paper. Then, determine the order in which to tackle the questions accordingly. This will save time and boost your confidence.
Prepare According to Weightage
The Mathematics paper will include questions on Commercial Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Probability. Questions on these topics can carry between 3 to 18 marks. The 80-mark paper will consist of 40 marks for short-answer questions and 40 marks for long-answer questions.
Thus, while preparing for all topics, practice solving both theoretical and numerical questions.
Other Important Papers
Following the Mathematics exam, ICSE Class 10 students will have papers in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Meanwhile, CBSE students will have exams in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Hindi, while the UP Board will also follow a similar schedule for its major papers.
